Areas of Practice

Speech Sound Delays/Disorders

We can help you with your difficulties in producing and pronouncing speech sounds correctly. This includes speech difficulties due to immature speech patterns (e.g., using W sounds for R sounds), speech errors (e.g., lisps), motor speech or movement difficulties (e.g., Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Dysarthria)

Language Delays/Disorders

We can help late talkers, children who have difficulty expressing themselves, and/or children who have difficulty understanding directions or what’s said to them. This may include working on vocabulary, grammar, word order, sentence structure, literacy skills, narrative skills, and/or inferencing.

Stuttering/disfluent speech

We can work with you on smooth speech strategies, reduce stuttering moments, and improving overall speech fluency.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

We can help clients with Complex Communication Needs and difficulties using verbal speech to express themselves. Although we are not Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) authorizers, we can help families with the funding process towards a Speech Generating Devices or trial low-tech options.

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)

The focus of this therapy revolves around the proper functioning of the muscles of the face and mouth. Treatment programs will be tailored towards optimal oral rest rest posture, elimination of noxious oral habits, and treating orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs):

Promoting:

  • closed mouth posture

  • tongue resting on the palate

  • nasal breathing

  • proper chewing and swallowing

Eliminating

  • open mouth posture

  • tongue forward posture

  • mouth breathing

  • tongue thrust

  • drooling

  • thumb/object sucking

OMT can also help with identifying and improving issues related to:

  • tethered oral tissues (e.g., tongue ties, oral tension)

  • sleep disordered breathing

  • TMJ pain

  • feeding/swallowing difficulties
